Mission Statement

Dongguk Royal University (DRU), with programs in English, Korean and Chinese, is one of the oldest and fastest growing schools of Oriental Medicine in the United States. Located near downtown Los Angeles, with surrounding vibrant Chinese and Korean communities, and the beaches of Santa Monica just down the freeway, a more culturally diverse and lifestyle-stimulating location in which to study toward a Master of Science degree in Oriental Medicine would be hard to find.

DRU's vision is simple: Calling upon 5,000 years of Oriental medical tradition, the university traisn health care practitioners of tomorrow to view patients as whole persons, each playing a chord in the harmony of the musical instrument of the world, while promoting and maintaining strong health through natural means. It is this approach to life and study that explains why DRU continues to attract students from around the world, as well as why Oriental medicine has become among the primary choices of millions seeking an alternative to the coldly clinical approaches of more traditional philosophies of medicine.

History

Dongguk Royal University is one of the oldest schools of Oriental medicine in the U.S. It was founded in 1979, only a few years after the New England School of Acupuncture. Its program earned candidate status from the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine in 1992, and was accredited in May 1994. The program was reaccredited in May 1999, and again in May 2004.

Programs Offered

Dongguk Royal University offers a Master of Science in Oriental Medicine degree program, consisting of 197 academic units plus 840 clinic hours, for a total of 2,810 hours of study. The program includes courses in Oriental medical theory, acupuncture, herbology, tui na and breathing techniques, basic sciences, Western medicine, management and ethics, and a variety of elective courses.
