The Minnesota College of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (MCAOM), on the campus of Northwestern Health Sciences University, is the only institution in Minnesota offering a master's degree in Oriental medicine and a master's degree in acupuncture that is accredited by a United States-based agency. Northwestern's master's degree programs in acupuncture and Oriental medicine emphasize the unified understanding of the mind, body and spirit inherent in Oriental medicine as it has evolved in a rich diversity of traditions. MCAOM programs are taught by a well-trained, professional faculty, many of whom graduated from institutions in China with training in traditional Chinese medicine, who are committed to academic and professional excellence.
The Minnesota College of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine falls under the branch of Northwestern Health Sciences University. It achieved candidate status from the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine in May 1994. It was accredited by ACAOM in May 1999, and reaccredited in 2002 and 2005.
The MCAOM offers two programs, leading to the degrees Master of Acupuncture and Master of Oriental Medicine. The Master of Oriental Medicine program is a full-time day program that may be completed in three calendar years (averaging about 25 hours per week) and by attending nine consecutive trimesters. The Master of Acupuncture program can be completed in two-and-two-thirds calendar years in a full-time day schedule and by attending eight consecutive trimesters.
