The mission of the Virginia University of Integrative Medicine is to produce educated healthcare practitioners highly skilled in Acupuncture and Integrative Medicine, trained to provide the community with affordable healthcare services while fostering the growth and practice of Acupuncture and Integrative Medicine.
In January 2004, Virginia College of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine was established as a school and clinic to educate students and provide treatment for the community.
On October 29, 2008, Virginia College of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (VCAOM) changed its name to Virginia University of Oriental Medicine (VUOM) and is currently certified to operate by the State Council of Higher Education of Virginia (SCHEV), Institutionally Accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (ACAOM). On March 23, 2018 VUOM changed its name to Virginia University of Integrative Medicine (VUIM).
VUIM is certified to operate by the State Council of Higher Education of Virginia (SCHEV) and is institutionally and programmatically accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (ACAOM).
Virginia University of Integrative Medicine offers courses in Acupuncture and Oriental medicine that lead to Master and Doctoral degrees. Its programs prepare students for professional life as licensed health care practitioners within the Washington DC metropolitan area (including Maryland and Virginia) as well as the broader United States.
Virginia University of Integrative Medicine currently offers students the opportunity to pursue Masters of Science degrees in Acupuncture (MSA) as well as Oriental Medicine (MSOM). The University's Master Degree programs are offered in the English, Korean and Chinese languages. A non-degree certificate program in East Asian Nutrition/Chinese herbology (CEAN) is also available to previous Master of Acupuncture graduates. VUIM First professional Doctor degrees in Acupuncture or Oriental Medicine (DAc. or DOM) as well as a Post-Masters research doctoral degree (DAOM) are the most advanced degrees offered in the field.
